Stew Leonard’s prepared foods were voted BEST by Connecticut Magazine four years in a row! We use fresh, local produce when it’s in season and other top-quality ingredients. Our executive chefs and their teams at each store prepare delicious hot foods every day. We serve more than 100,000 prepared meals to our customers every week, made daily in our in-house kitchen to guarantee you the freshest foods possible on our hot and cold buffets, as refrigerated meals to go and our specialty - Catering, for all occasions.

Our Chefs have worked personally with her over the years to develop her own Leonard family favorites into Award Winning recipes still used today! How our small dairy store became World-Famous

From its humble beginnings as a small dairy store founded in 1969 with seven employees, Stew Leonard's has grown to become not only the World's Largest Dairy Store, but one of the most renowned grocery stores, with annual sales of almost $400 million and almost 2,000 Team Members. In addition to the headquarters store in Norwalk, Conn., Stew Leonard's has stores in Danbury and Newington, Conn., Yonkers and Farmingdale and East Meadow, N.Y.

We’re talkin’ FRESH!

• Unlike traditional grocery stores that sell an average 45,000 items, each Stew Leonard’s store carries only 2,200 items, chosen specifically for their freshness, quality and value.
• 80 percent of the products sold in store are fresh – that is, brought in daily or prepared directly in-store.
• Because of Stew Leonard’s commitment to customer service and the number of products prepared fresh daily, the store employs twice the number of employees as a traditional grocery store!

Still all in the Family

Stew Leonard's has remained a family business. In 1987, Stew Leonard, Jr. - Stew's son - took over the reins and is now President and CEO. Son Tom opened the second Stew Leonard's in Danbury Connecticut in 1991. Stew Leonard’s daughter Beth founded the famous Bethy's Bakery and heads up the Gift Center. Daughter Jill is Vice President of Culture and Communication. The 3rd Generation has also joined the team!

The Guinness Book of World Records

The company has received worldwide acclaim for excellence in customer service and quality and is featured in two of management expert Tom Peter's books: A Passion for Excellence and Thriving on Chaos. In 1992, Stew Leonard's earned an entry into The Guinness Book of World Records for having "the greatest sales per unit area of any single food store in the United States.”
